After remodelling the website and catching up on the blog I got back into modelling. This time I wanted to complete a few goals with this next model, first I wanted to experiment with substance painter to gain more experience in using emissions, transparency and using textures to create patterns. I also wanted to try and create a low poly styled model as I haven't actually made any models in that style yet. To complete these objectives I decided to create a trident based of an anime as the design would be interesting to try and create in substance and the bright colour palette made the trident more aesthetically pleasing.
The main difficulty in the actual modelling of the trident was creating the helix at the bottom of the pole as the helix had very few sides so it became hard to get the ends to fit into the pole and getting the helix to fit around the pole however the rest was quite simple.
In substance painter I began by setting a base colour however after looking at the reference I noticed that each part of the trident had a different shade of blue so I tried to replicate that I ten focused on using textures to create a similar wave like pattern found on the reference I went through multiple different textures until I came across a paint texture that created the desired outcome.
When I was about to finish up I decided to take a look at the textured trident in the Arnold renderer in which I noticed that the blues were too dark in comparison to the reference so I opened substance again a changed the blues to a lighter shade to match the reference.
Overall I do think I succeeded however I think I should create a model that uses less complicated shapes that would show off the low poly design better.
